Carsten Pieper Mr MoonJune's report of the Soffs' ill-fated US tour made me aware that are still some gaps to be filled in my Soft Machine collection. This was one of them, the first (live) outing by the newly formed/named legacy keepers (and one of the very first MoonJune releases, I guess).

Sophisticated and quiet relaxed live set. Great sound, too (comes in 24-88 HD). Favorite track: 1212.

gearmanx Always loved the cd but especially now with the Mark Wingfield tinkering with the sound. A lot more punch to the sound. Favorite track: Big Creese.

Andy Long Fantastic stuff from the Legacy line up. Favorite track: Kings & Queens.

Peter Jones Not a lot of choice for me on fave track. Blindingly brilliantly mad.

The rest? Well... stunning, of course! What else do you expect of this bunch?

Very nice sound from the live space of the performance. Favorite track: Two Down.

about

Potent jazz-rock fusion -- British "Canterbury" style -- from the legendary Soft Machine alumni. Live in Zaandam is the first salvo from exclusive MoonJune artists' Soft Machine Legacy, showcasing visceral grooves with sizzling solos and telepathic interplay.Founding SML members Hugh Hopper (bass), John Etheridge (guitar), John Marshall (drums) and the late Elton Dean (sax / electric piano) combine to deliver six open-ended compositions. This is a sizzling set, where structure serves as but a framework for intrepidly expanding the possibilities of fusion, while remaining undeniably accessible.Despite this being the band's debut performance, there is obviously very special chemistry at work with these seasoned veterans. The music is inspired -- the occasion finding the musicians in top form, their playing bristling with unrestrained energy.Live in Zaandam shows that the spirit of Soft Machine is still alive and well, and is in good and capable hands. Essential listening for all fans of fusion and these progressive music legends.
